TRAVEL AND TOURISM

Who doesn’t love a little road trip?! Or (when the planets align) somewhere further afield? (Not like planetary travel, I just mean when life does you a favour and you get to really travel). I know I do, and wherever I go my sketchbook and Macbook come with me. I’ve always enjoyed cataloging my own travels and illustrating commercially for others. Actually *fun fact* my first ever illustration commission was drawing yoga positions for an inflight magazine around 20 years ago! I love to depict landmarks and landscapes, airports and train stations, all the people and all the places.

Below you can take a trip through a selection of travel and tourism projects I have worked on. Of course, if you are in the industry and would like to discuss working together, then get in touch.

Great Western Railway

A series of short travel films featuring me and my sketchbook working my way around Great Western Railway’s network from London to Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, and finishing down in Exeter!

Airbnb

I’ve always had a lot of love for Airbnb; the brand, the superhosts, the trips I’ve taken and the hours I’ve just spent browsing cool places to dream about. Here’s 4 of my favourite stays from around the UK.

Illustration of a couple sitting outside their home with a pig lying on the grass, in front of a modern, rounded house with a large circular entrance, surrounded by stylized trees and greenery.
Illustration of a small wooden house with open double doors, windows, and outdoor chairs, set against a pink sky with leafless trees and abstract cloud shapes.
Illustration of a house with a solar panel roof, chimney, and a cat on the porch, set against a sunset or sunrise with a large pink sun and colorful sky, surrounded by green landscape and plants.
Illustration of a round wooden house with steps leading up to its entrance, a chimney emitting smoke, and a garden with plants, set against a pink and orange sky.

Atlantic Books

I worked alongside designer Mark Ecob on the cover design for John Kampfner’s book ‘In Search of Berlin’. As you can see I illustrated a collection of Berlin landscapes and notable architecture old and new for the book cover and marketing. Check out the book on Atlantic Books.

Book cover of 'In Search of Berlin: The Story of a Reinvented City' by John Kampfner, featuring illustrations of Berlin landmarks on a dark blue background.

People Who Travel

A series of illustrations of real people on their travels, taken from submissions from social media followers.  I wanted to share the travellers' stories, whether it was a weekend at the beach or 12 months adventuring worldwide.  I'm interested in types of people and their reasons for travel, and how sharing these stories makes the world feel smaller and friendlier, more accessible and more welcoming.

Illustration of two people wearing winter hats, standing outdoors at night under the Northern Lights, with a quote about their trip to Iceland from Argentina.
Illustration of a person holding a camera, wearing an orange jacket and black beanie in an icy landscape, with a quote about traveling to Antarctica, titled "People Who Travel."

Falcon Jigsaws

The Bristol Harbourside scene was commissioned by Falcon Contemporary as a 1000 piece jigsaw (you can buy it here), and features a multitude of Bristolian references, including some special Twitter friends with connections to the city. I’m in there too.

Colorful illustration of a vibrant cityscape by a river with boats, kayaks, paddleboards, buildings, trees, and hot air balloons in the sky during sunset.

Global Galleries

Three of my favourite galleries, well worth a visit to Bilbao, London or New York!

Illustration of San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge, City Hall, and a hill with trees, set against a colorful sunset sky.

Illustrated Maps

Any excuse to illustrate tiny versions of landmarks, the local dishes, activities, inner-city ski slopes and, of course, Bigfoot.

Map of Treasure Island in Copenhagen highlighting various attractions including a saltwater soaking pool, beach with sun and sand, street food market, a rooftop sports area, and a Nordic nosh restaurant.
Illustration of a tropical island with palm trees, dolphins, flamingos, and dinosaurs, featuring beach umbrellas, people relaxing, a submarine, a cruise boat, and a drink labeled 'DIVE'.
Map of London with illustrations of landmarks, bridges, trees, a river, and the text "The London Marathon" on an orange background.

Snapshots of melbourne

A month in one of my favourite cities and my wife’s home-town, Melbourne.

Check out the full project here!

Silhouette of trees and a landscape at sunset with colorful sky, mountain, and a trail of white circles leading downward.
Abstract digital illustration of a sunset or sunrise landscape with stylized hills, a windmill, utility poles, and a building, using bold colors and geometric shapes.

Travelling Sketchbook

Firstly, thanks for reading this far! And to finish a handful of my favourite illustrations from my ‘Travelling Sketchbook’, my visual journal of travels of my own, from Oxford, UK to Queensland, Australia.

A colorful, stylized illustration of a city skyline with gothic and modern buildings, surrounded by a variety of green, yellow, and orange trees and hills under a partly cloudy sky.
A digital illustration of a coastal landscape showing a large blue body of water in the foreground, white chalk cliffs with yellow accents in the background, and green rolling hills with a winding dirt path on the right side.
Illustration of a modern house surrounded by bushes, trees, and plants at dusk or nighttime.
